waiting for at least a +2 foot tide swell
driftwood summer:
innertube on the Sound
sunscald flattens the jagged horizon
lightens the eyes
no jellies except for the
the young girl who sits impossibly—
knee nested in her chin like a kebab of
foot, ankle bracelet, braids
“oh. my god.
you’re going to the era’s tour?”
and that boy in jeans
desperate for anything
not water not taylor
walks up to the sign
public beach ends here
covers end
no fear of god in him
nods at what he’s made
meaning and a morning
and clamors like a tide over the wall
When you spend time at the beach with a book you’re not quite into yet, you start to notice children's perfect oddities. The geomotries of posture, their conversations carrying, and what they do when they’re wandering alone. Hilarious. This poem captures a few moments from the little beach by our house last weekend.
I wish I had more to share as far as resources but the world’s a bit unpredictable and my attention has been otherwise. Here’s some music I’ve been enjoying lately (sorry for all Spotify links if you don’t use Spotify!):
Patterns by Laura Marling - one of my fav current songwriters put out a new song. Beautiful guitar work.
Von Dutch by Charli xcx - I’ve been told by reliable sources that it’s also brat boy summer. This song goes.
Mad About Records Playlist - a great label that puts out lesser-known Jazz, Funk, Soul, and Brazilian music. Guaranteed interesting listening with a lot of joy sprinkled throughout.
Passage by Vijay Iyer and Wadada Leo Smith
With gratitude,
