This Time of Night
New song demo! I really like this little diddy… it’s definitely a “wee small hours of the morning” type of thing. I was trying to capture that time of day or, well, night. (As always… a bum note or two.)
This time of night
I’m open ears, open mind
Keep the record on
Let it spin
On again, off again,
on again
So tell me what you wanted to be
A renegade, a baron of the trees
Fast forward, it’s alright
You won’t miss anything aside
from your life
A folktale
You wrote pages on, pages on
That life
So tell me who you’re dreaming to be
A renegade, a baron of the trees
Take note, take flight
This time of night
This song is about late night conversations and the way they are boundless in nature. In this particular “conversation” someone is reflecting on what they want out of life and suggests skipping moments of it to get to the next thing, being more of a renegade, being a baron of the trees, or living the life of a folk story.
Baron of the Trees is a reference to a magical tale by Italo Calvino about a boy who decides that he will no longer set foot on the ground and will make his eternal domain in the treetops.
